Music-man Michael Deason-Barrow is Art Lot co-presenter James D’Angelo’s guest this week.
Michael, director of Tonalis, is not only a master singing teacher and an inspirational choir trainer, he is also known all over the world as a music innovator promoting a new vision of music.
It’s fair to say he has extended the boundaries of world musical understanding: an expert with a universal attitude.
This show is a fabulous conversation between two music masters: don’t miss it!
Art Lot guest John Holland sent me this update on the High Court Judicial Review which Gloucestershire County Council faced on its destructive library proposals on 28 and 29 September.
John
From the BBC: “A court has ruled that a judicial review should take place over the potential closure of 10 libraries in Gloucestershire.
There were protests last year when the Conservative-run county council said it would withdraw funding from 10 branches as part of £114m spending cuts.
“It said it wanted communities to run the libraries instead.
A judge has now ruled that the council cannot close any libraries while the review takes place.
“The mobile library service will also be kept open during the review.
A hearing into the council policy should take place by the end of September.”
And the latest from John:
“As I understand it from coverage on Points West and other media coverage, the judge stopped short of imposing a restriction on GCC proceeding with preparing their plans, including continuing discussions with relevant communities over the small community offer.
“A remarkable achievement by the Friends of Gloucestershire Libraries that increases the belief that doing the right thing can still be achieved through conviction, hard work and determination.
“Looking forward to hearing that the Homelink service, Share-a-Book and the rural mobile libraries are fully involved with service provision, despite recent announcements, including news that Upton St Leonards would shortly have its last visit.
“…the future looks bright. John”
