Artist of the surreal AND big apologies to...

I first met Gavin McClafferty some threee years at a Stroud Open Studios event…I liked his work so much that I bought one of his pieces…well, not exactly the piece, as it was a sculpture made from a salvaged door…I bought a large photograph of it.

So I was particularly pleased when Gavin agreed to come on The Art Lot this Tuesday July 27 at 4 …in this pre-recorded interview, Gavin explains his progress from ‘my piece’ [called The Blue Walker] to the work he is currently making. And the work he is collaborating on coming up this weekend in Cheltenham...it involves projecting huge images from the back of a rickshaw!

I call his work ‘surreal’ and we explore his personal philosophy around this definition of art…you can see The Blue Walker and much more of Gavin's work on http://www.gavinmcclafferty.com/

Don’t miss this great interview!

Tune in! Next Tuesday July 27 at 4 to 5…and repeated the following Sunday Aug 1 at 3pm

Big apologies to James Early…I had to unexpectedly cancel the last Art Lot Slot when James was to be my guest. This was the second time I’ve had to postpone with James – the first when I was stranded in the South of France due to ‘that volcano’.

So big apologies not only to James, who was travelling down from London especially for The Art Lot, but also to all listeners who were looking forward to hearing about his work.

James was born in Sheepscombe and now lives and works in London. He has worked with many artists to “realise projects in diverse and sometimes awkward locations, from commercial white cube spaces to abandoned townhouses in Mayfair and community spaces in Peckham.”

Recent projects include the show ‘Diamonds in the Rough’ at the Stroud House Gallery in which James brought the works of seven of his favorite artists to the Stroud audience.  He subsequently acted as a selector for the controversial Stroud Open Studios Show at the Museum in the Park.

As part of Camberwell Arts Week James organized a game of Capture the Flag in which artists and the local community played alongside each other to win territory in the Southwark estate. James is linked with the collective Geldautomat and is a member of the London Biennale.
