I've a double treat for listeners this Art Lot, with internationally renowned music therapist Susan Hale coming into the studio ... and the double-up, is sound healer and Art Lot fan James D'Angelo will be my guest interviewer.
Susan is a sound healer, and author of Sacred Space, Sacred Sound: The Acoustic Mysteries of Holy Places.
She is a seminar leader, teacher and coach, helping people to explore their sacred paths and find and free the natural voice.
She is also the creator of Earth Day - Sing for the Trees, a global gathering with participation from 39 countries around the world.
Susan, who has 27 years experience as a music therapist, and has journeyed across the globe researching sacred sites, will be discussing with James the desecration and disharmony of our current world ... and offering advice on how to change that.

Gloucestershire County Council library plans

Dear all,
Friends of Gloucestershire Libraries representatives have been offered a meeting with policy officials from the central government department with responsibility for libraries, DCMS (Department of Culture, Media and Sport).
An email to FoGL supporter Alice Ross, who has been in correspondence with Culture Minister Ed Vaizey's private secretary on behalf of the group, reads: 'Ed Vaizey has said that he would like to offer the Friends of Gloucestershire Libraries a meeting with his policy officials, to give them the opportunity to present their views about the proposed changes to the library service within the local authority area.'
This follows news that DCMS officials had called Gloucestershire County Council representatives to a meeting in London to explain their plans for the county's library service. Information obtained by Friends of Gloucestershire Libraries through FOI show that DCMS and the Minister have been aware of concerns in Gloucestershire for some months, and that the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA), the 'eyes and ears' of DCMS on public libraries, share our deep concerns about the council's proposals, most notably the loss of libraries in deprived areas (see http://foclibrary.wordpress.com/2011/03/24/mla-concerns-over-gcc-library-plans/ for further information).
Culture Secretary Ed Vaziey has the responsibility of superintending library services across the UK, and the power to intervene if councils are failing in their obligations under the 1964 Public Libraries Act. When in opposition, Mr Vaizey condemned library closures in the Wirrel as 'outrageous and offensive' and called on his then-opposite number Andy Burnham to intervene.
Friends of Gloucestershire Libraries member Demelza Jones comments:
‘Library users from across Gloucestershire have been writing to Mr Vaizey for several months with our concerns about GCC's plans for our library service, which are based on inadequate consultation and ignore the needs of communities.
‘We are pleased that DCMS policy officials have agreed to meet with us, and can only hope that they and the Minister listen to our concerns, unlike our elected representatives within the GCC administration'.

FLIES ON THE WALL YOUTH THEATRE present their new production 'Nobody Laughed It Was Too Hot'

The show is based on the contents of the front page of a London newspaper which Tessa found under the floor boards of her house. Dated July 23rd 1923, the paper records one of the hottest summers ever known in England resulting in the metal rails of the London Underground starting to melt, thus disrupting the tube and trapping passengers for hours.
The Flies 40-strong cast become newspaper reporters, an East End gang, Egyptologists and a group of London Underground passengers. The show is full of catchy songs, beautiful 20's costumes, silent movie footage, and vibrant ensemble performances from the young people.
Audiences of all ages are always enraptured by Flies performances, so don’t miss this one which promises to delight heart and head.

Bridging the Gap – new opportunity for young people
Waldorf College, in partnership with Stroud College are running another ‘Bridging the Gap’ course for young people who are either not in education, in part-time education or home schooled starting on the 3rd May for 6 weeks. The last course was really successful and the nine young people who came on it said it really helped them find their direction in life.
The programme is a mixture of outdoor activities such as climbing and camping, projects such as clay and metalwork and indoor crafts such as stained glass, creative writing, drama and art.
